Araina
Day Spa at
the Executive
Inn
I visited
the Araina
Day Spa location
at the Executive
Inn during
a girls getaway
weekend and
was less than
impressed.
The spa, which
consisted
of 3 small
rooms, was
decorated
in dark burgundy
tones which
didn't compliment
the very small
area and we
were immediately
struck by
how dark and
confining
the space
was.
My friend
and I booked
side by side
pedicures,
facials and
massages.
When we arrived
a few minutes
late on a
Tuesday afternoon,
we were made
to feel uncomfortable
while I doubted
they had much
business to
be concerned
about. For
our side by
side pedicures,
we were seated
in the very
small foyer
in metal chairs
that were
located directly
in front of
the entrance.
While we were
both displeased
with the lack
of privacy,
my friend
opted for
an additional
massage, while
I persevered
with the pedicure
in lone location
behind a curtain.
When we expressed
discomfort
at having
our pedicures
in the front
entrance and
directly in
front of the
door, our
concerns were
met with irritation.
My pedicure
was mediocre
and lacked
the attention
to detail
that I have
experienced
elsewhere,
while my friend
seemed to
enjoy her
massage experience
that day.
The next day,
and with a
fresh and
forgiving
attitude,
we arrived
for our facials
and full body
massage. As
we'd been
shopping,
my friend
was unable
to remove
her make up
and while
she offered
to do so,
she was told
it didn't
matter and
assumed that
they would
do it for
her. Instead
they went
ahead with
the facials,
leaving her
make up untouched
and upon her
face. My friend,
being well
versed in
facials, found
this particularity
careless and
when she left,
it was with
black eyes
not the pleasing
glow of a
good facial.
At one point,
one of the
attendants
commented
on how much
nicer my skin
was in comparison
to my friends!
You can well
imagine how
well that
went over
...
The attendants
performed
our massages
in complete
unison as
one of the
girls was
a trainee
and learning.
When we asked
for certain
body parts
to be concentrated
on, and others
ignored it
was met with
disapproval
and irritation.
All the while
we listened
to the trainer
instructing
the trainee.
The next day,
after some
consideration,
we returned
to the spa
to speak with
the manager,
who all but
attacked us
verbally within
minutes of
our arrival.
When I pointed
out that good
customer service
should allow
for our perspective
she apologized
and gave us
an audience.
After we explained
what we had
endured, and
informed her
that her big
city prices
did not compare
to our previous
big city spa
experiences,
she acquiesced.
My friend
left with
a small bag
of no name
spa products,
and we both
felt exhausted
and emotionally
drained by
our experience
at this less
than professional
day spa.
We can only
hope that
the second
Araina Day
Spa location
at the new
and fabulous
Harrison Beach
Hotel is a
better choice.
